Revised October 27, 2020.
Google Programs
Google Analytics
I use Google Analytics to determine site traffic, sources of said traffic, and user behavior. Neither I nor this site will attempt to identify you personally using Google Analytics.
I also have demographics enabled on Google Analytics, which only tells me aggregated information on users’ age, gender, and interests.
If you wish to know more or even opt out, view Google’s privacy policy.
Google AdSense
I run Google AdSense mainly to know how to use AdSense. Again, for more details, view Google’s privacy policy.
Google AdSense required the following disclosure:
- Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to your website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings.
For more information, read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Facebook Pixel
I currently use Facebook Conversion Tracking Pixels. This allows me to see visits on my website via Facebook, as well as to target Facebook ads to people who’ve visited this website.
View Facebook’s privacy policy for more details. Facebook also has an Ad Preferences page giving you control over your data.
For the time being, I’ve disabled (i.e. removed) the Facebook Pixel.
Affiliate Relationships
Amazon Associate
This site participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for this site to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
AbeBooks
This site also participates in the AbeBooks affiliate program via Impact Radius. Links to AbeBooks may be tagged in such a way that, if you make a purchase on AbeBooks after clicking on a link to AbeBooks, this site will earn fees from that sale.
Sovrn//Commerce (formally VigLink)
This site uses VigLink to automatically affiliate commercial links. This is done via a JavaScript snippet. Visit VigLink’s Consumer Disclosure Page for more information. While I am still a member of Sovrn//Commerce (formally VigLink), I’ve temporarily disabled their JavaScript plugin.
Social Media
Comments
I use a Jekyll and GitHub Page commenting system known as StaticMan. Each comment requires a comment, a name, and an email. I never see the email nor save it in plaintext. It is hashed and stored using MD5, which allows me to access profile images associated with the email via Gravatar.
There is no requirement that the email or name be real.
If you want a comment removed, contact me with the e-mail address and permalink of the comment you wish to have removed. The permalink can be found by clicking on the date of the comment. For instance, the following is a comment permalink: https://www.joehxblog.com/new-commenting-system-staticman/#comment-1510760200.
If you want all comments removed with an associated email, contact me with the email and I will remove them.
Share
Each post currently has five share links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Mix. Sharing a post requires an account with the associated service as well as adherence to their privacy policies.
